Church in the Park
At some point last year, we decided to have a Church picnic in a local park in our community. We ate food, played games, sang some songs, read some Scripture, and had a great time. After the picnic was over, some of us were standing around talking about doing this on a regular basis and using it as an opportunity to share the gospel with any who might gather with us. Thus, began our thoughts on having ‘Church in the Park.’ We thought about it more, made plans for food and advertisement, did all that we could to let people in the community know about it, and ultimately spent the last month (May) having our Sunday night services in local parks. I want to thank all of those who were able to participate. Whether you were a Trinity member and brought a desert or just somebody who saw a bunch of people gathering together and stopped to see what was going on, I am thankful for your participation. To be honest, we were not real certain that anybody would show up, so your presence was a great encouragement to all involved. If you are still wondering why exactly we decided to do this, let me give you our reasons. First, we wanted to serve the community by providing a free meal (I know, a hot dog may not be much, but they were pretty tasty). We wanted to meet people in the different neighborhoods and see what we could do to minister to them. Second, we wanted to create an opportunity to share the good news of Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection for our sins with anybody and everybody that we could. We recognize that coming to a Church where you do not know anyone can be intimidating, so we wanted to introduce ourselves and let you know that we would love for you to come and worship the risen Savior with us. His grace has changed us. His mercy has freed us. His love has filled us. And we want others to know about all that He has done. Know that you are welcome to join us as we seek to worship and follow Him. We surely enjoyed our time together in the park. In fact, I think we enjoyed it so much that it may become a regular activity in our Church. So, if you missed us this time, don’t fret, we hope to be coming to a park near you real soon. If you cannot wait for the next time, then come and join us in any of our regular services. We may not serve hot dogs every week, but we promise to point you to the work of Christ as revealed in God’s Word. We hope to see you soon!!
